Finding a good rescue group is one of the most essential parts of searching for your perfect companion. Rescue groups all have a variety of different policies and procedures that are important to evaluate before making a final decision. Though some rescue groups do not have housing to facilitate dogs, they are a great source for referrals and helping you find the perfect Shar-Pei that’s right for you. They are also a great source for advice and information for potential adopters. Other rescue groups place dogs in foster homes and some house the animals right on site until the right owner comes along.
Most rescues are eager to place dogs in good homes. In a few cases, because of this eagerness, some groups do not properly evaluate the health and temperament of the Shar-Pei before finding good owners, nor do they use proper sterilization procedures.
On the contrary, the adoption procedures of some rescues have such strict policies that they place very few dogs into homes. For example, some rescues require that the owner not work full time or live in an apartment.
It is important to look into the rescue group adoption procedures before adopting your future Shar-Pei. Remember, there are many rescue groups out there with different adoption requirements. If one rescue does not allow you to adopt, or is not right for you, check into others in the area.
Proper care is essential for this breed due to the health problems that can be associated with them so be sure to evaluate the rescues care and sterilization guidelines before adopting. Ask plenty of questions about the animals as well as the everyday procedures of the rescue group to ensure you are adopting a healthy, well cared for companion.
