When considering adopting a Shar-Pei, it may be a good idea to consider adopting from a purebred rescue group.  Purebred Shar-Pei rescue groups are usually staffed by people with extensive knowledge of this specific breed. Normally, rescue groups house adoptable animals until they are adopted by loving, life-long owners.  Some rescued Shar-Pei may come from breeders, boarding kennels, or abandoned animals rescued as strays and taken to a veterinary office.  Fees for adoption vary depending on the rescue group and veterinary costs incurred with the specific pup.Locating a rescue group that specializes specifically with Shar-Pei can usually be suggested by your local animal shelter or sometimes even your veterinarian.  The internet is also a great source when finding a good purebred rescue group and also allows you to sometimes view adoptable dogs photos without having to go into the facility itself.

Before contacting a purebred rescue group, be sure to make a list of questions you’d like to ask.  Find out how they care for their Shar-Pei, how they decide which animals are adoptable, and what post-adoption services they have available.  Most often, staff are very friendly in assisting you with answering all questions about the rescue group as well as breed specific questions.
